The title of my blog refers to an Australian Aboriginal concept. “The Dreaming or Altjeringa (also called the Dreamtime) is a sacred ‘once upon a time’ in which ancestral Totemic Spirit Beings formed The Creation.” [Wikipedia: Dreamtime]
“Aboriginals believe in two forms of time; two parallel streams of activity. One is the daily objective activity, the other is an infinite spiritual cycle called ‘the dreamtime’, more real than reality itself. Whatever happens in the dreamtime establishes the values, symbols, and laws of Aboriginal society. It was believed that some people of unusual spiritual powers had contact with the dreamtime.” [From the Wikipedia article, quoting Fred Alan Wolf from his book The Dreaming Universe, who was quoting from The Last Wave, a film directed by Peter Weir].
I don’t know a whole lot about this topic, but it intrigues me, gets my mind wandering in a direction I like. Whether I am referring to simple daydreaming, or something more profound, I’m not quite sure yet. This will probably be a recurring theme here.
