They Also Faced The Sea

Outdoor art installation by Ewa Nogiec and Norma Holt entitled  “They Also Faced The Sea.”

The installation of larger-than-life photos of Provincetown women of Portugese descent, mounted on a building at the end of Fisherman’s Wharf, is conceived as a tribute to the Portugese community and its fishing heritage. Norma Holt’s photos of Almeda Segura, Eva Silva, Mary Jason, Bea Cabal and Frances Raymond are meant to represent all the women of Provincetown  who over the years have been the backbone of this vital fishing village.

Mrschili reminded me of the book Ahab’s Wife, about the woman left behind when the husband puts out to sea. I had read it, and it’s a good read.
